Kathmandu, 2 Feb.
The government has sought support from the Kathmandu-based diplomatic community in attracting the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the country.
It urged the friendly nations to contribute in Nepal’s socio-economic development.
“But we need huge financial resources – both from within and outside the country. Investment in productive sectors will be critical to realize our goal of economic transformation. Therefore, we are hosting an International Investment Summit in March this year to invite foreign investors to Nepal. This is the topmost priority of the government,” Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali said in a briefing to the diplomatic community in Kathmandu.
He said that the government is aware of that only the legal, policy and institutional reforms boost the confidence of investors and is effort in making visible reforms so that potential investors see the difference when they come to attend the summit in March.
“We will make all possible efforts to ensure a predictable, secure and attractive investment climate in Nepal,” said Gyawali.
According to him, Nepal must modernize its agriculture, build infrastructure, tap the energy potentials, promote tourism, develop human resources and generate employment opportunities for its people.
We are effortful to advance ‘economic-orientation’ throughout the country. We strive to achieve socio-economic development and prosperity, building on the dividend of political transformation, he said.
“It is in the interest of both Nepal and our partners to make this event a success to contribute to Nepal’s socio-economic development at a faster pace,” said Gyawali.
According to him, with a significant rise in the number of tourists visiting Nepal last year, the country is encouraged by the trend and continues to promote tourism as a vital sector to contribute to economic growth.
He urged the diplomats also support in Visit Nepal 2020.
Minister for Finance Dr. Yuba Raj Khatiwada said that remaining policy reforms will be made before the investment summit which is slated for March 29-30.
