Nepal-India Mechanism agrees on expediting bilateral projects

Kathmandu, 17 August. Nepal-India Oversight Mechanism has agreed to take necessary measures for the timely address the problems and obstacles in the course of implementation of bilateral development projects.

The eighth meeting of the bilateral mechanism held in Kathmandu on Monday has agreed to expedite the projects funded by India in Nepal.

“Both sides underlined the need for the expeditious implementation of the bilateral projects. In that connection, they agreed to undertake necessary measures to timely address problems and obstacles in the course of implementation,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting was organised through video conferencing and chaired by Foreign Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi and Ambassador of India and Nepal Vinay Mohan Kwatra. It made a thorough review of the implementation of projects under bilateral cooperation.

The projects reviewed included Terai roads, cross-border railway, Arun III Hydropower Project, petroleum products pipeline, Pancheshwor multipurpose project, post-earthquake reconstruction, irrigation, power and transmission lines, construction of Nepal Police Academy, integrated check posts, and Ramayana circuit.

The Nepal-India Oversight Mechanism was set up after the state visit to India by the Prime Minister of Nepal in September 2016 to oversee the implementation of bilateral projects and take necessary steps for their completion in time.
