Nepal seeks Russian support in East-West Railway

Kathmandu, 25 August. Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development Basanta Kumar Nembang has urged the Russian Ambassador to Nepal Aleksei Novikov to support Nepal in the development of East-West Railway.

In a meeting with the envoy at his office at the Singhadurbar today, he discussed about the possible investment cooperation in the Inruwa-Bardibas section of the East-West Railway.

They also discussed about the Russian cooperation and investment in Rs. 450 billion Kathmandu Metro Rail Project.
Novikov said that he would initiate dialogue with Moscow for the technical and economic cooperation.

The minister also wished Russia the best in the development of vaccine for the COVID-19 treatment and said that it would help in saving the humankind.

Projects developed with Russian support such as Kanti Hospital, Panauti Hydroelectricity Project, Janakpur Cigarette Industry, Agricultural Input Industry, Birgunj Sugar Mill, Rosin and Turpentine Plant, and Pathlaiya-Dhalkebar section of the East-West Highway were also discussed in the meeting.
